Bearlodge Hosts Workshop

Internationally-acclaimed Maine author Morgan Callan Rogers presented a day-long writing workshop, “The Story of How I Got the Story,” at the Community Room of the Crook County Court House in Sundance on September 24, 2016.

The workshop focused on such points as the place writers determine their characters will live; how to begin a book that promises the universe; the arc of the novel; description; and dialogues, rhythm of speech, and the power of silence. A substantial buffet lunch was included in the price of the workshop—an old-fashioned covered dish experience providing a delicious variety of barbecues for hot sandwiches and an outstanding selection of sides, salads, and desserts—all prepared by members of the Bearlodge Writers.

The event was organized by a Bearlodge committee that included Patricia Frolander, Ayme Ahrens, and Andi Hummel, but as is always the case, attending members of the multi-genre writers group pitched in to set up tables then break them down when the event was over. They swept floors, washed dishes, and discussed what they had so studiously absorbed from Ms. Rogers' class with a number of workshop attendees who had come from out of the immediate area. The event made for a great experience on a cool, rainy September day.

Bearlodge members appreciate our talented committee and our long-distance member, Morgan Callan Rogers!
